From the recording Hiʻipoi
Pua Līlia
(Alfred Unauna Alohikea)
Paula searched the byways of Hā‘ena and Hanalei on Kaua‘i for the ‘ohana of songwriter Alfred Unauna Alohikea before Jim ultimately found Alohikea’s great-grandchildren on O‘ahu. We thank them for giving us their blessing to record their great-grandfather’s mele aloha, which compares a woman to a lily flower. Pili
adds his warm baritone to the harmony.

Lyrics
ʻAuhea wale ʻoe ē ka ua
Ke nihi aʻe nei i nā pali
Ka helena o ia pua i ʻako ʻia
Ke popohe mai nei ia uka
Ia uka hoʻi aʻu e walea ai
Ke ʻala onaona o kuʻu pua
He pua ʻoe naʻu e lei mau ai
Ke ʻala kuʻu pua līlia
Where could you be, o rain
Moving softly over the cliffs
The appearance of this flower which was chosen
Blossoming forth in the highlands
Those lofty heights where I enjoyed
The sweet perfume of my sweet bloom
You are a flower to always wear as my lei
The sweet scent of my lily blossom
